Just wanted to thank everyone for all the information provided on this forum.
I had a POS Aspire 500w power supply that was noisy. I also had some infrequent lockups during extended game play (I thought this was due to cooling - lol). I replaced the PS w/ a 350 watt Seasonic unit (tornado). This solved both the noise & the lockup issues!
One would think that a PS rated for 34a on the 12v line wouldn't have any problems running my system - too bad it couldn't deliver the anywhere near the rated power. Must be quite the piece of junk to get it's butt kicked by a 350w supply (that only delivers 19a on the 12v line).
I've learned my lesson, stay away from generic garbage power supplies.
I've also learned to ignore reviews that consist soley of "I plugged in a bunch of stuff & it worked great" (of which there were several for the Aspire). I now focus on the detailed reviews provided by places such as silentpcreview.com.
