I got lucky in purchasing recently from z-buy.com an OEM 800x100 cCO that is running stable at 1120 mhz (140 fsb). I have councelled a friend to purchase an 800e and an Abit bf6 mobo ( I know , bf6 is getting old but it still rocks ) on evidence of my success with this chip / mobo combo. Im curious to know if my experience is common with this chip or does the 800 coppermines vary widely in performance?
My above experience is strictly air cooled with a Golden Orb and two case fans. I havent posted my results in the database because I didn't know all the information necessary to log it in ( week and some other number I think). TIA for all responses.!

On average most coppermines will make 1ghz with a little extra voltage, what you have achieved is quite rare especially with only air cooling and a Gorb, I would recomend a 700 for your friend becasue these have a good success rate at reaching 933 and a lot will make 1ghz

Now that you mention it I do recall reading on this forum that the 700's have a relatively good yield. I tend tho to be cautious and spend a little more in case I get a dog at least im more ahead that way. :) thanks ! :)

Hey Elin27

You got better luck then me. I'm stuck at 960mhz with my 800E! And thats with a PIII Alpha.

Oh well ill know this weekend if we got lucky on this chip. My luck with oem chips has been good so far.

1st chip october 98 P2 333 @416 with abit bh6

2nd chip november 99 P3 500 @ 620 with abit bh6

3rd chip sept 2000 P3 650 cBO @ 865 with abit bf6

4th chip jan 2001 P3 800 cCO @1120 with abit bf6

I may be over-optimistic but I have no reason to think it wont do 1gig in air cooled mode as my experience with coppermines so far has not led me to think otherwise. :)

Get more serious cooling and it would probably go up some more. Your chip seems to be one of the highly cooperative ones. Slap an Alpha or Global Win on there and find out what it'll do! You've been lucky with the orb so far, but it could only get better with better cooling.
