View Full Version : Celeron 700 won't go beyond 840!! Help!
I've just bought a celeron 700, and it won't start with fsb higher than 80. I've tried changing the voltage from 1,6 to 1,95, but no difference. The computer won't even boot with higher fsb than 80.
I have installed 2 additional fans to cool the processor, so heat is no problem. I think. 23C idle.
I have a Creative geforce2 mx, without cooling. After about an hour, the gpu gets so hot, that i can't touch it without getting burned on my fingers. Could this be part of the problem? None the less, the computer should at least boot. right?
My mobo is an Abit VH6-2. I haven't seen anyone who has tha mobo in these forums. does it suck?
Its your mobo.
I have Celeron II 700 @ 934 Mhz 1.7 V Default
FSB 89/133/39 or is it 41. I always forget.
I have a ASUS CUSL2-C and I can goto 934 Mhz, with no problem and I am using a RETAIL Intel heatsink fan.
Also it might be your RAM, What type of RAM are you using? And whats its Speed? PC-133? PC-100? Is it Generic RAM?
I might be TOTALLY wrong here, but then atleast your getting an answer to your post
The Geforce card will get hot, I suggest you get a System Exhaust Blower, you basically place the Blower on a empty PCI slot right under the geforce, then the heat from the G's Fan will be sucked by the blower and be put out of the case, thus keeping the Case cool.
Here is a site with the pictures and all:

Note: Just because I am pointing to this website does not mean I am advertising. I am just SHOWING you how it looks like.
I just use one like this to keep my G 2 MX cool.
I have one 128 MB 100mhz and one 128 MB 133.
I tried again today, and now the computer booted with 83 FSB. Of course not without some rather weird error messages. with 82 FSB I managed to get into windows, but i got kicked back to windows after about an hour of Unreal Tournament.
There isn't a fan on my Geforce yet.
So I should change the mobo?
Cool exhaust pipe by the way! Does it come with Headers?
No, the System blower does not have a header.
It uses a 4 Pin Adapter.
What is the current Temp of your Mobo?
The Geforce without a FAN will just vent its heat to the mobo.
Btw that System blower cooled down my Mobo by 6C. from 34 to 28C, But then the heat was coming from my G 2MX's which has been fitted with a
BIG P3 Copper cooler (6192 Speed) and pasted with Arctic silver adhesive and so goes Core 220 and Mem 185 since its a noname brand.
Regarding your CPU Cooling, what prog are you using to Monitor the CPU temp? 23 is very good temp. BUT, what is the temp at FULL Load, Idle doesnt mean anything.
Can you just try with your 128 MB of PC-133?
Remove your PC-100 and just try o/c with only the PC-133. Your PC-100 might be the problem.
Your mobo I'm afraid never heard of it. (I'm more into ASUS).
Im only using the software which came with the mobo, "Via hardware monitor", and I get the same readings both in the bios and the hardware monitor.
I'm a little unsure how accurate the readings are because in the mobo manual, there are two "thermistor's" that measure the temp. I dont know how these "thermistors" measure the heat. There is one located underneath the processor, and one on the mobo that measures system temp, but sys. temp. is referred to as environmental temp. and it reads 23-25c.
At FSB 80 (840) my cpu temp after playing UT, increases rapidly to about 40-42c, but stays there no matter how long I play. Its the same with repeated 3dmark 2000 tests. That not TOO bad is it?
I get the same temp when i now use FSB 82. with a lower voltage. Seems stable so far.
Ive heard that boards with VIA chipsets aren't well suited for oc ing, but the VH6-2 had a new and improved chipset, and it was fairly cheap so i thought I'd give it a shot.
I know the celeron 700 isn't the best cpu around but.....
I need this cpu to get to 1050! at least boot at that speed!

Now you know how i feel, I also have a Celeron II 700 but mine is a cC0 and it goes to 877 (83fsb) @ 1.65v (1.7v default) but l8tr restarts after some testing. This chip will not boot @ 1050 (100fsb). My mobo is a ASUS P3V4X and it is the new revsion so i can't try 90, or 95. I know this chip will do 95 for sure, this chip is realy good. I am going to get a new mobo to get higher speeds. I run my Celeron II 700 @ 789 (75fsb) because then i don't have to disable dma on my boot hard drive. Since i now have software raid installed with win2k, it gives me about a 3000-4000 point increase in sisnadra drive benchmark. I get around 15000 with dma on. 83fsb messes up the dma on my hard drive because of the high bus speeds.
I usually run 26-27C IDLE and 36-38 Full Load @ 1.7v 877
Celeron II 700 @ 789 (does 877 without a glick @ 1.7v) 1.7v
ASUS P3V4X REV2
2 10gb western digital hard drives in software raid striping mode in win2k
(15000 score in sisandra drive benchmark)
ATI RADEON 32MB DDR 166/333 @ 190/380
192mb PC133 MICRON

I had a similar problem with a 566 and 633.
Tried everything, taking out pci cards, taking out memory, trying diff memory setups, went thru 3 heatsinks and fans (coolmaster 1.1ghz rated, golden orb and finally a fop38) to no avail tried 3 kinds of slockets too.
Both chips ran fine at there default speed but any higher and they restarted windows and all sorts of wierd things.
I put both of them into my m8's pc and they ran at 100 FSB no probs and would of gone higher.
At this point i took my mobo (a new P3V4X) and put it back in the box and went out and bought a CUSL2.
Now they both run smooth..............so it could be your mobo thats causing woes for both of you.
Its odd because i know alot of people that love the P3V4X and get great results with it, but for me it sucked.
