View Full Version : P3 700 or 750?
Should I purchase a 700 or 750?
specs
Gigabyte GA-6VX-4X
550e@784
384 of Micron/IBM PC133
30gig WD/15gig IBM
Hercules Prophett 2 GTS
Give some suggestions on heatsink/fan. I'm leaning toward Alpha PEP66T

One of the members of this forum is a retailer that sells pretested cpus. He recently posted to a similar question his results with the 750 MHz PIIIs. His conclusion was that the 750 is not a good choice for overclocking, and the number of suitable chips found when sorting quantities of these processors was very low.
The 700 has shown to be a good choice for overclocking. I would definitely go with the 700.
Yes, Tim's right, DaNut said that with his experience, the Costa Rican OEM P-III 750 chips had a low rate of hitting 133 MHz bus speed (1 gig). That majorly influenced my decision to go with a 700 instead.
If I had to guess, and this is just purely speculation, maybe the better 7.5 multiplier P-III CPUs get marked 1000 and the lesser ones get marked 750???

Maybe a correct speculation...?! :-) Maybe... Perhaps people should try to pay more attention to the week of the succesfull cpus.. not just the stepping, but the hole batch... Maybe something there hidden in a bigger statistic data....

Jeff Evans,
Mine's a P3 700E cC0 made in Costa Rica and how come mine OCs so well? All games rock solid playable with zero crash @ 1064mhz(152mhz fsb)?.. This is with no special cooling. No Alphas or global wins of any kind. I'm only using custom home made air cooling setup and retains its temp of 31C idle and 42C Max load. I can get my chip upto 1078mhz(154fsb) and utilize within 2D windows applications and no 3d gaming. I must say... I have a good Costa Rica chip?? Give me yur input.. Am I lucky or what?...

I'm saying that their OCing results seem to vary a lot, they are typicaly unpredictable. You 700E may OC fine, I've seen other CostaRica cC0 700s that can't hit 933. So I just try to avoid them.
