i have a p3 800eb SLOT 1 on asus p3v4x mobo with 128mb of toshiba ram
the maxmium i get the thing to o/c is 864 but the thing stops after a few hours when running seti@home
i tried to make it 850 but machine restarts itself every 3 hours when running anything
does any of u have this problem? if yes, plz help me how to fix it?
oh yea, how fast did anyone of u actualy got the thing to go at?
and what's the regular temp(under 100% load and idle) for this chip?
info below is when my cpu not overclocked
my temps are 53-55 under 100% load and 45 at idle
i use cpu cooling (program) and the thing somehow made my temp go down to 35-40 when cpu idle and never got past 60 when cpu under load
NOTE THAT THIS STUPID THING IS SLOT 1 AND NOT FCPGA AND ALL TEMPS ARE IN C
It's too hot. Check the H/S fan installation for a thin coat of thermal compound. Add, if necessary or get a better H/S fan. But, you won't get much past 900 MHz with an "EB" anyway.

Skyline GTR,
I assume you built your own system and I very strongly suspect that you may not have assembled the heat sink and your cpu perfectly. The contact area may not have been perfectly(100%) even. Get a copper spacer for your Slot 1 cpu and use thermal coupound(paste)

Well I'm working on mine @900 unfortunately thats as fast as my mobo allows me seeing thats the highest fsb setting it has. It doens't run perfect stable at 900 though. 3dmark crashes on the helicopter test but runs fine on all the others. Thats the only prob I've had with mine at 900. I'm currently running it at 840 though until I can work out the prob. Good luck!
PIII 800 EB @840 workin at 900(some probs with agp)

Did you check your pci/ram divider settings?
Usually if you have the divider set at 1/1 then it won't work too well because then your pci and memory will be running at above 140 mhz fsb.
I have an 800eb chip @ 930, rock stable, on an ASUS CUV4X mobo [155 fsb], 4/3 pci/ram divider.

i have taken apart the stock hs/f and put some thermal paste on but it doesn't help.....

Does switching your memory to 4/3 effect the RAM performance?

Actually from my experience. you can get a slot 1 cpu a hell of alot cooler then a fcpga. The slot 1's can take those big ass HSF's. Like the PIII Alpha's, Awesome coolers!
I agree... way too hot... ditch that Intel cooler... get something better... maybe extra case fans too.

Way too hot..get better cooling, and if you can get it down into the low 20's celcius...you might be able to get some more speed...unfortunately you will have to go all the way to 166,167fsb just to hit a gig.

I don't have a divider option but I do have the option of setting my pci/ram speed to default so its actually not overclocked. I do that and still my system crashes only on the helicopter test of 3dmark. Every other benchmark I've done works great except for that specific test.
