I get the blue death screen/registry error when completing win98se setup while running 850mhz.
What settings do I need to run in Softmenu III?

I have done the win98se setup both ways with and without overclocking.
Do u also own the same board?
I always do that on mine without any problems..I don't own the same board but my friend have the same board (BE6II ver 2.0) and there's no problem for him.

At first I thought that my win98se CD was going bad cause I'm a pc tech who don't usually overclock CPUs.
Can u contact ur friends about my problem?
Do u think that I have to return this particular board?
what voltage are you running at?

I've tried both 1.65 and 1.7 on separate setups and they both crapped out!

sounds like you need a little more juice. try 1.8 or up to 1.95. But go as low as you can. Good Luck!!

That is most stupid rule I have ever heard, muhahahahaha.....
Rule #1: Be sure the system IS Overclocked before you install windows. Not only it doesn't give trouble installing OS but it also installs it Faster.

why the hell bother?? Leave the damn high FSB alone and just install Windows. ok?? If the system is severely overclocked and as long as still be able to withstand the stability, you do not need to lower the FSB. The real PC guys will know what im talking about.
To answer your original question, have you tried the installation without the SB Live card. I had the blue screen from SB Live. It took me a while to realize it but once I did I then installed the latest drivers and the blue screen was gone.
So I would do the installation without the sound card. Then add the card and update the drivers.
Also there is a flash for the SB that reprograms the chip on the SB. I didn't have to do the flash, though to get rid of the blue screen of death.
Always install windows THEN overclock once all drivers are installed. You get registry errors whilst installing your os or drivers cos your computer is having difficulties reading the overclocked cache.

Thanks for the quick replies from all! ;-)
I think I may just get rid of my SB Live Platinum and go with a professional audio recording card (Echo Mia - 24bit/96Khz). Better yet, I will put my Live card on one of my networked PCs for entertainment purpose (web, game, or DVD).
Anyway, I will try setup again w/out the Live card.
Thanks again.

and don't forget that bsod's can be caused from memory errors. so set your memory settings to 3 and raise the core voltage from the default of 3.5 to 3.6 and see if that helps.
me gots the same mobo with a p3 700@933. also like was stated in another reply raise your voltage to 1.8 to 1.85

its a fcpga retail sl3xx (which on intels site is listed as an oem???, but it came in a box with matching serials) on an abit slocket III. at 1.85 volts after a good burn in.
Don't forget that I no longer get the BSOD with the new drivers.
Also, don't overlook unhooking USB items until after you install Windows.
Finally, if you do buy a hi-fi or top audio card what will you buy and how much will it cost. I have considered this for transfer of LP's to CD. An article in the now defunct Audio magazine had high praise for quality audio cards.

I am gonna buy the Echo Mia audio card from echoaudio.com.
My former composer professor uses Echo cards and loves them. They're really quiet and have great headrooms. 2 analog quarter inch I/Os and SPDIF I/Os as well. $189 includes free shipping on www.8thstreet.com
I have made thousands of dollars on restoring old cassettes, records, and reel to reels on this SB Live Platinum card! SoundForge is awesome!
Cool Edit pro 1.2a also does a great job removing the hiss and other unwanted noises from these sources!

I forgot to mention that the audio card has 2 analog I/Os and they are all balanced!
