i just ordered buffalo winbond ch-5 ddr 400 which is rated at cas 2.5. im running my 2700 at default 166 fsb, and i planned to prime my memory overnight at ddr400 cas2. wuldnt boot. any1 know y it wuldnt boot at cas2 at ddr400. i didnt up the memory speed any, just tightened the timings. is there a stability problem running async fsb and memory? a7n8x delux mobo.

voltage increase will solve the problem, at least 2.75v

I have 2x512 PC3200 CH-5 Buffalo, and I'm running it at 210MHz (CAS 2, 3-3-11) on 2.8v. I'm using this with an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Rev. 2, and I think that it may be the voltage thats holding you back.

EDIT: On a side note, does anyone know how much voltage I can run this RAM on safely? I'm not really impressed with my timings, and I just want to know how high I can set the voltage to when I do my volt mod.

Yeah, more voltage will probably help. CH-5 chips do very poorly with low latencies, so your best bet is *probably* to set it to 2.5-3-3-11 and shoot for max FSB speeds.

You should be able to run RAM safely as high as 3.1-3.2v. Anything above that I would be a little leery of.

yea i think 3.1-3.2 volts is ok, and make sure you have your latest bios etc

Would you see any benefit with higher volts though? Currently running my CH-5 @ 217fsb 11-3-2-2.0 w/ 2.6v (2.67v actual)

I was told CH-5 HATES high volts...

CH-5 doesn't necessarily hate volts, but you have to give it a bunch to see any difference. 3.2v+ is necessary to tighten the timings to 2-2-2-X.

Okay, that answers my question. Thanks for your help.

Winbond CH-5 can't do Ras to Cas 2, will do at 3.
My HyperX 3200A, do 5-3-2-2 won't do 5-2-2-2 at DDR400

lol, this is so true. I was wondering why mine could always run 444mhz at 2-2-2-5 but NEVER 2-2-3-5. Thanks for clearing it up :D

(err, sorry this thread was 1 or 2 weeks old. was searching for threads)
