My MOBO (Aopen ax6bc) manual says , that it's able to adjust CPU core voltage automatically whithin range 1.3 to 3.5 V.
Should I anyway use a slotket (fc-pga to slot 1) with PII 700-800, or can I go for slot 1 version of these CPU's? I'd prefer the later solution, in order not to mess with a slotket e.c.t.
Any comments?

If you want to overclock and your mobo has no core voltage selections, you must get a slotket and FC-PGA setup. They are really no problem and work fine. You'll get back the cost of the slotket when you purchase the H/S fan because Socket H/S fans are cheaper than equivalent slot 1 versions. You use a regular socket style H/S fan on a slotket.

Im little newby, but i have the same problem... my Soyo 6BE+ doenst alow me to change voltage settings...is there any slotket and FC-PGA (whatever it is, i dont know..)for me? How much it costs? Im using a PII 400 processor, and cant even OC it to 500 cause it freezes in seconds. Have already tryied anything else but changing core voltage.
Tx for any help..

Mentow - Your mobo is an older model that does not support coppermines. The best you can do is to get a slotket and a PPGA Celeron 400 and O/C it to 600 MHz. The slotket will provide the voltage adjustments you need and you'll need a good H/S fan.

Because of the extra speed and the full-speed on die cache, you'll get a decent performance boost from the Celeron 400 @ 600 MHz over your PII 400. You could sell the PII 400 to raise cash for your upgrade.
