View Full Version : Slot 1 to slot 1 with voltage setting converter???
Hi, I got a Tyan Trinity 400 mb and a slot1 P3-550E... I've realized two things, the P3 is probably very overclockable, and the Tyan doesn't come with a voltage modifier option =(
My question is: are there slot1 -> slot1 converters with voltage settings, or is my only chance to throw the Tyan away and get another mb??? Another question, maybe a little wrong category... is it possible to mount a coolerfan directly on the metal-cooling-thing (dunno the english word) which is the only coolingdevice at the moment? And if so... how?
Thanks guys!

Wait, the heatsink (metal cooling device) in your pc doesn´t have a fan? O my god, buy one tomorrow morning! Your p3 may overclock reasonably without aditional voltage if well cooled, but anything more agressive shall require a voltage boost.
Answering to your question, hmmm never saw that kind of adapter, but there are some tricks thath involve soldering that can actually let you increase the voltage (stay away unless you know what you´re doing... ) The celerons2 has the vid pion trick that enables them to "ask" more voltage to the motherboard, but I never saw that with p3... Maybe try to sell your motherboard and replace it with a new decent one and that p3 may hit more than 700mhz ...! :-)
Thanks for your reply...
Hehe, I expressed myself a little badly... the CPU itself has a cooling fan as well, I was reffering to the GeForce2 (but forgot to mention it, not easy for u to know huh?)... =) Is it possible to mount a fan on that one as well???
I'll go looking for a decent new mb with voltage options, temperature measuring and fsb-speeds to at least 133mhz for a slot-1 P3-550E cpu... any suggestions???
ei, i have the same problem...my Soyo 6BE+ dont have a jump for voltage settings, its auto detect (as it says on manual). I've tryied OC my pII 400 to 500mhz, but i got freeze everytime, even with a huge house fan besides the pc. The cpu is running at 1.95v (i think its low, isnt it?), is there any program or something that alow me to change the voltage? (bios doesnt have that feature too, its "auto detecting"...)
tx for any help
Although I'm pretty new at this, I don't think it is possible to change the core voltage on such a mb (like mine, with autodetect) without messing with the electronics (really not my area!)...
Am I right guys?
I've read about another trick though, but I think it only applies for Tyan with both socket 370 and slot-1 ... get a socket370->slot1 converter with voltage settings on it ... done! =)
Actually it seems odd to think of a cpu PII or higher without a fan on the heatsink. But My first pc a few years ago was a Gateway (JUNK!) It was a PII 266mhz. It did not have a cpu fan on the heatsink. The heat sink was this massive thing. The biggest heatsink I have ever seen. It makes a slot 1 Alpha cooler look small! It never overheated or locked up due to overheating. Then heat sink's fins wer big enough to disapate the heat without air movement carrying some away. Although I dont think that would fly on any of the newer chips.

O yeah put a blue orb on the chipset and rocket the Geforce! About the motherbard, if you have pc133 memory, suposing that your geforce will handle th high agp bus, stick with a bx mobo like Soyo 6vba+100 , asus cubx/p3bf, abit be6-II... I´d go for the first one.. Very stable.. Overclocker friendly and received many prizes...
