Picked up a USB keyboard Tuesday to go with the Soyo 6BA+III mb I got last month. The mb has bad PS/2 ports, so the only way to use it is with the USB and a serial (or USB) mouse.

I got it for next to nothing, though......=)

Well, I finally got a chance to play with it tonight.......

OH MY...............!!!

Picked up 1 more MHz of FSB. Now at 117, Celeron cC0 600@ 1053, 2.05v.

Even better, is the tremendous boost the fabled BX chipset gave my memory benchmark in Sandra.

With the A-Trend mb (VIA Apollo Pro 133) I got scores if 124/129 with 320MB ram installed.

With the Asus P3C2000 I pulled out tonight (i820) I got 230ish scores, w/ 256 MB onboard.

The Soyo pushed that up to 326/353, w/ the same 256 MB ram.

I've gotta start looking into getting a 7200 rpm HDD soon, as the 5400 might be slowing me down at this point.

This is AWESOME !

BTW...Sandra CPU Bench scores;

Dhry...........2861
Whet..........1424
Interger.......5739
Float. Point..7027

Performance rating.....1264.

Seems stable thus far, will really wring it out tomorrow.

G'nite all.........

Better hope you don't have to do anything in DOS or "Safe Mode" - USB don't work there.

I spotted that in the BIOS when I was first setting it up. Enabled that immediately. =)

Had a moment of rational thought.

Backed off to 1009 MHz at 1.9v. I suppose I have my Gig, maybe I should let it live, and not burn it up.

Still can't believe how far this puppy WILL go, though. I'm half tempted to invest in a water cooling setup, and see if this bugger has a bit more left in it.

Mr. B, you really need to scrape a few bucks together and find a good inexpensive Abit BE6 version II board or something similar. I'd buy an Abit BX133 RAID board in a heartbeat, if the price was right. Nice job tweaking that Celly...hehehe...since we're bragging...check out my sig.

I know, I know........

I bought an Asus P3C2000 thru e-BAY a short time ago, as I couldn't find a BE6 II in my price range at the time. Damned if'n one didn't get listed a week later at the same $$ I spent on the Asus....=( *whine*

I've got an Alpha P3125 coming for my P/// 600E in a week or so, so I'll be hanging on to the Asus 'til at least then, as I can get the P/// to run as fast at the Soyo will go, with the intel hsf on it. (155 MHz FSB, it just gets real hot, real quick, w/ the intel hsf) I think the P/// will possibly get to 166 (996MHz) with the Alpha on it, and the Asus will go to 180.

The Asus works ok, but is a bit tempermental. Doesn't like my ISA SCSI card, PC133 ram, and I'll have to modify the Alpha slightly to fit on it. My Celeron/slocket/PEP66 fits no problem.

Unless, someone wants to buy the Asus from me....I'll let it go for $75, + shipping....... (that's what I spent)

The Soyo works great, aside from the PS/2 ports not working. The BX chipset does a bit better than the i820. The Asus would work a lot better for me if I didn't have the ISA cards.........but if I'm gonna spend the money on a PCI SCSI and sound card, I might just as well get a BE6 II.

The BE6 II is SO HIGH on my shopping list....just short on funds right now. Just bought a car Tuesday, so the computer fund is a lot smaller now.
