i have been thinkin alot and i have considered waiting for the intel prescott and the amd athlon 64 in socket 939 to emerge. i am thinking of just waiting until the end of march/ beginning of april to start buying stuff. i am pretty sure my budget of 1,000 or so will raise quite a bit by then, plus my bday is at the end of march.

ya id say wait definately. Current line of procs will be out of date very soon and you'll find a better investment in the new socket 939 mobo's.
What's your current setup.. i cant read profiles for some reason. the buttons not there.

Anybody know why that might be by the way?....sorry thats off topic

March/April is when the S939 chips are expected to begin appearing. The boards will appear soon afterwards. However, they will be initially expensive and you might need more than $1k to build a S939 system (I dont know if AMD is only introducing the 939 FX in March/April, or if they are introducing both the 939 FX and the 939 A64).

Prescott is supposed to be out come February. They will come in S478, and soon transition to LGA775. It's probably smarter to wait for LGA 775 than get a S478, which will be obsolete soon.

If it matters to you, PCI-Express, and DDR-II wont really start to be integrated into boards until later (PCI-Express is phasing out AGP).AGP and DDR will still be good for awhile though, so it shouldnt bother you too much.
