View Full Version : New Computer, SATA RAID or not?

I'm putting together a new computer that I plan on using primarily for gaming with a little graphic/animation editing here and there (Photoshop, Macromedia Flash).

The SATA HDD's are well within my budget, but the question remains, to RAID or not to RAID? I've never done a RAID array before, so I don't know what the performance increase is like, or if it is worth it (in my case).

My mobo: Abit KV7

Anyone have RAID experiences with this mobo? Good, bad? Do I need RAID or not? Just the basics.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Did you already buy the KV7? If not, you would do better with an Abit NF7-s. They offer dual channel DDR. Much better performance.

If you already have the KV7, then yes you should set up RAID 0 with that board. The performance increase is substantial. Get yourself a couple Raptors and you will be amazed.

I already got the KV7...but I'm good at blowing away all my money. I might just stick the KV7 in this computer, and buy a NF7-s for my new computer I'm building (although I hate delaying my computer building projects). Does the NF7-s have a PCI/AGP lock?
