View Full Version : Which ones Better?
i have an abit bh6
300a @ 300a ... shame on me!!!
well.. im planning to upgrade to a better cpu
... and im think ing on buying the
700 PIII
but whichones better?
700, 700E, 700B, 700EB
if none of these are worth it...
what is your recommendation?
thank you for your time...

The "E" tells you that its a coppermine CPU, and the "B" tells you that its running 133MHz FSB, and of course the "EB" is a coppermine running 133MHz FSB.
The "700E" is the way to go for an overclocker! Get cc0 stepping if you can, cB0 is second best and also ok.
sorry or posting the same thing twice
.. i was stuck on the second page ..
and never saw my post ... lol
so i thought it didnt post...
well..
do you guys noe of a good site
that sells reliable .. good qulity
proccessors for cheap... with the
cCo stepping thing ( what is that anywayz)
thanks alot guys
oh eyah
which ones better
slot 1
socket 370
im going with the 700e

Stepping = version, revision etc. Most (all?) CPUs have different versions of the same CPU, and the newest version of the p3-700 is cC0, which overclocks the best.
I would get a FC-PGA, and stay clear of the slot1.
Can't help you on a place to buy it though, sorry.
fc-pga means socket 370 rite?
but i cant get a 370 because
the BH6 supports slot 1 only
is it worth getting the slocket ?
just for teh piii socket?
P.S. this goes out to all the people with
abit bh6 's
can i go past 700 mhz?
although the specs say only 700
at abits website?

Just found a BH6 in the CPU database that has a P3-700 doing 933, so thats no problem for you...
And yes, FC-PGA is a socket CPU, and works fine with a slocket.
welll
thanks alot for answering my questions..,.
just a couple more...
which slocket should i get .. (ive heard abit makes one)
and what kind of cooling do i need to get it to
to get it to 933....?
im not really good at cooling cuz ive never
done it before...
dont really want to bother with that thermal paste thing
either....
id like to use just a regular
proccessor fan
will it get to 933?
P.S. so slot 1 sucks?
Unless you buy a pretested CPU, there never is a sure thing. That said, "most" P-III 700 cC0 will "probably" do the magical 133 bus speed in order to clock 933 with good cooling and maybe a bump in voltage. The retail box CPUs might yield the best odds. It seems that most cC0 P-III CPUs have at least 1 gig potential, if you go about it the correct way. Look at my signature to see what I've just done with a new 700, but I've spent some coin and also done lots of cooling mods, research, trial and error, and wasted lots of late nights tweaking away on stuff.
well..
1.wat if i buy one of them
overclocking cases. ...
like the fong kai..
and just a regular ...
PIII fan..
would i get to it?
2. where can i buy the pretested ones.
You DO NOT want to use the intel hsf at those speeds....they just won't hold up with the heat.
Slightly better is the Gorb. Slightly. Had a couple of these on my Celeron 600's, they work ok, to a certain point/speed, and then they just can't cut it.
An Alpha would be the best choice for a hsf, either slot or socket. The slot 1 version is the P3125, and the socket 370 would use the PEP66.
There's a lot of choices in between. Check the front page, there's a lot of good stuff on this in the "Reveiws and Tips" column on the left.

If you are gonna shoot for 900+ , thermal paste is not an option it's a necessity
when you apply... it
only needed to be done once rite?
or how many times. ...a month, year, millenium ?
Once, unless ya keep pulling the hsf off the cpu......
Mr B
is it really hard to put in one of those
"alpha" fans?
and ive heard thermal compound
can jack up yoru cpu
if you put too much or something?
I really want to get this..
but i want to take all the precautions..
and stuff first

You never use a computer without thermal compound! You need the thermal compound to make the contact between the CPU and the heatsink better. IF you do not use any of this, way may harm your computer in the long run, because of way too high temperatures.
You should apply a thin (paper-thin) layer of thermal compund to the cpu core with a razor blade or something like that. Don't use your fingers. When this layer is on, just clip the heatsink on top. (carefully).
And don't worry, thermal paste will not harm your cpu, not even if you put on a little too much.
Bottom line: Apply the thermal grease, or you won't have much luck in the overclocking business! :)

And I almost forgot... Mr. B is right, you probably won't get anywhere with the stock intel heatsink, no matter how great a cooling case you have.
Alpha is great, but I think you will be happy with a Globalwin FOP32-1, they are cheaper.
