socket
1. you have more mobo options.
2. the are easier to cool

Most would say that the socket..because the "flip chip" design litteraly means that they have taken the cpu chip, and fliped it upside down...which is closer to the heatsink..and thus allowing for better cooling/higher clock speeds, however you can't put five or so inches of alpha heatsink on a socket chip like you can with a slot...but if you are asking about motherboards..you posted in the wrong topic...I know I have been guilty of that too many times

actually i am not
i am talking about proccessors..
because i have an abit bh6
which is a slot 1 mobo
and

the PIII 700 e , can be either socket or slot..

yet i dont know which one to get..

some people say to buy the slocket
and use the socket

but is it worth the time money
and effort?

While Doc has a valid point about the Alpha SECC2 cooler (P3125), the PEP66T works quite well, too.

A s370 chip mounted in a slocket will give you much more flexibility for tweaking the voltage. If you get a slot 1 mb that allows you to adjust the voltage in percentages, say for example, a Soyo 6BA+III or IV, if you figure the default for the 700E cC0 is 1.7v and add 10%, you have 1.87v to the chip. This is enough to get you quite a few MHZ worth of FSB.

A slocket will generally let you raise the voltage much higher than that, but you can also go too far, as well.

1.9v is a good setting for these. You could go either way.

Just stick to the "E" chips, not the "EB" ones. E is the 100FSB designation, EB is the 133 FSB series, which usually don't overclock nearly as well.

I'd go with the FC-PGA "flip-chip" on this one, it's just more versitile. With a slocket, you can run it on pretty much any board, provided it supports the P/// chips.

well
here are some questions..

1. i have the abit bh6
which tops out at 700 P3 (at site)
can it go higher?

2. should i get the slot 1 or socket?

3. if the flip chip a slotket?

4. im not verygood at o/cing since my 300a
is @ 300a.. im not a fan at cooling ....
should i still go with the answer for #2?

5. ive heard they are coming out with faster
pIII ... should i wait?

thank you guys alot
this forum has given me great info
