About a month ago one of my loops got pulled out of my Abit IS7 motherboards north bridge heatsink hold down, the stock unmoded heatsink hit my graphis card and lucky for my it did not fry it. I bent the clip so I could use the heatsink on the other opposing set of metal loops, now today the other loop got pulled out and I think it fried my Graphis card. Should Abit pay for a replacement video card as well as a new motherboard? The motherboard was bought from newegg and is less then 2 months old. And the video card is a PNY TI4400 and is about a year old.

They should cover the board, but probably not the video card. I'm sure that they have something in their warranty that says they don't cover "Consequential Damages". I had one of those loops give out on my IC7, but I am still running with the 3 leftover. I was thinking of RMA'ing my board, but what a hassle.

Abit really has a problem with this little loop deal, I am going to call them up and see if I can get a ned video card out of it.

Through there thick accent I kinda got the idea that they wanted me to go f myself, he told me to return it to PNY even though it was abit's falt.
So insted of paying for the stupid shipping for an RMA and missing out on my computer for a few weeks I fixed the problem my self with my 1337 soldering skillz, and lucky the card does work fine :bday:. Must be some kind of super card to take two NB heatsinks falling on it and surviving both times.
Compaines I dont trust:

In actuality at the point where you had the thing fall off the second time it was not abits fault entirely. After all, earlier you said this

At that point you knowingly modified the clip to make the clip use holddowns that were not meant for holding that heatsink. You did this after knowing you had a problem with the board. That kind of puts the second one at least partially as being your fault. If it was the first time then yeah it was their fault, but not totally taht second time. Don't get me wrong, I am not a big fan of Abit at the moment myself and in fact i recommended that I get stabbed in the face if I ever buy another Abit board (I currently use a BH-7 and it sucks!) but you probably should have RMA's after the first time, or took it out and fixed it the way you did after the second time. Yeah, they really messed up the soldering in of those loops. I think there are alot of cold solder joints at those loops =(

Im sure you can understand why he didnt rma it, he probably would of got a ****ty board back..
Glad you got your video up and running!
I have issues with Abit, and have sworn off their boards as well. Even the crappola PC Chips boards have better components on them.
You'd think for $170 motherboards, they'd have good parts on them, it's just not so anymore. They've been selling on their brand for the last two years, and I'm done with them.
I modded my board instead of puting myself through the hassle of RMAing, because I won't be their victim anymore.
Maybe get some Arctic Alumina adhesive and go for a larger 'sink on it (cause you only can do this once).
