View Full Version : instability, is my psu to blame?
my rig is in my sig and im still trying to get to run stable at 3.51. i had an Enermax EG365P-VE FM (http://www.enermax.com.tw/eg365p-ve.htm) and when i ran prime95, my computer would freeze after a few seconds. i ahd done some mods to it though. i cut off all the extar connectors i wasn't using and i replaced the rear fan with a quiter one. i have the memory at 3:2 so it is running way below what it is capable of so i don't think that is the problem. my system is water cooled so i don't think that is the problem. then i thought that maybe my powersupply was getting to hot. im at home now so i swapped powersupplys for an antec SL350 (http://www.antec-inc.com/specs/sl350_spe.html) and prime ran for a lot longer, at least a couple hours before it froze. is my power supply still too small? i have a dvd drive, a cd burner, and 1 harddrive. my cpu is still at its default voltage. i tried moving it up when i had the enermax in, buit it didn't seem to do anything. also, after my computer freezes and i try to restart, everything starts up(fans, drives, etc) but i get no post. the power led blinks and im not sure if there are any beeps cause i don't have the speaker plugged in right now. i have to restart again to get it to boot back up and then it doesn't seem to have any problems until i run prime for a while. thanks for any help
OMG, it is late this in completely the wrong forum:bang head:, please move me

You might want to get a mod to move this to the psu forum, this is the classifieds so you might not get as good of replies here. :)
yeah i pm'd LutaWicasa. should i try some of the other mods? he was first on the list.
hehehe 2:50AM and now im going to bed
now that im in the right place, can anyone help me?
after reading this:

Nowdays P4's draw enough 12V current to overwhelm the 350 Fortron. The 530 Fortron or the Antec True Power 430 should be seen as practical minimums for P4's running in excess of 3GHz
i am thinking of buying this:
fortron 530w pwer supply (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-968&catalog=58&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=1§ion=4)
hopefully it will solve my problem.
also, if anyone has any other insight into what might be causing me to freeze up, let me know. when i bump my voltage, i freeze up faster and faster. im trying to see if lowering my voltage will let me run longer

I too have this Power Supply Enermax 365 and am experiencing the same kind of problem. First I thought it might be my Barton asking for more voltage but it doesn't help either.
Here is the symptom:
Boot problem - some times it can't detect/scan the IDE drives.
Booted into Windows but locked-up a few minutes later.
Hear HD tried to spin-up w/clicking noise and froze as if it could not draw enough power.
I may ask too much of this Power supply though, as I have:
Five 80mm LED fans
One 120mm Enermax Fan
Two Hard Drives
One CD-ROM Drive and the rest in my sig.
What a coincidence! I am also thinking of getting the Fortron 530W and came here to research. I will try to disconnect some fans and drives to see if it were indeed the Power Supply is too weak to handle the load.
And yes, I also would like to have some opinions from the folks who have the Fortron 530W.
