View Full Version : P!!! 1Ghz: seems like all cCO's can default to 1.85Vcore

I noticed that there are 1Ghz cCO P3's with default voltages of 1.7 1.8 and even 1.85Volts, and they all have the same slightly bigger retail cooler on them. I take it that this means that most cCO's can take 1.85Volts then with a slightly bigger heatsink/fan, this means no worries for us who bumped of their voltage to 1.85 I guess. I bought the 1Ghz P3 heatsink with my CeleronII 800, you can see the difference in size below,

I would not be afraid to shove 2.00v though any cC0, provided that I got rid of the junky heatsink and fan combo's that they supply.

Way back in the olden days of overclocking when I was pushing a P-I 120 up to the blazing heights of 133 MHz, then I got a P-II 233 and promptly squeezed it up to 263. Anyway, if you were one of the lucky few who could adjust voltage, the rule of thumb was not to exceed 10% increase by much. So, on a cC0 chip, 1.9v is just a tad over 10%. As long as you take care of the cooling issues, there should be no problem running these voltages.

We'll soon find out I guess, I'm on day two of running a P-III 700 at 1.9v to hit 1050 (rock steady) and occasionally at 1.95v to run 1071 (only 90% stable at that speed). For the last two nights when I go to bed, I lower the speed down to 933, but leave the voltage at 1.9 and use Sandra's burn in program. I think this burn in method is starting to work. I can run benchmarks at 933/1.7v (default) now when before I need to goose it to 1.75v to finish 3DMark2000. I'm going to do this for a least a week and see what happens.

Intel rates their chips to 2.1v, this probabally means that they haven't had any of there chips die during their routine burn in up to 2.2v or so, and rate at 2.1v max for safety, even still I would be cautious going over 2v as even with low temps I have know people have chips die on them at as little as 2.05v, luckily they have been able to return them for replacements as it's not like the retailer can tell they have been running out of spec

Batboy,

Is your SE6 using the VK BIOS? If l have asked you this before I apologize. Also, is the cCO chip default at 1.7?

I have a cBO that is default at 1.65 and I am the one posting all over the board trying to get my voltage up to 1.95 as my current max setting with Soft Menu is 1.9.

I am thinking about a wire trick but the only option is 2.05 volts and therefore I would have to adjust the voltage down with the Soft Menu!!!

Marty, yes my SE6 has the VK BIOS update, and yes my new cC0 P-III 700 CPU has a default of 1.7v. which gives me a max setting of 1.95v on this board. I think wiring it for 2.05v default is your only option if you want higher voltage, and it's not really a problem to set the voltage lower than default if you do have Soft Menu. The cC0 1.7v default chips do have more options.
