View Full Version : Dancin' the gig jig...
Sorry, just gotta brag some more. Well, my new cC0 P-III 700 has been rock solid for over 12 hours of torture testing today, zooming along at 1.05 gig @ 1.9v once I got my system optimized and the CPU broken in a little.
Yesterday, this rig would not run above 1 gig without crashing. I cleaned up Windows using Nortons Utility, defragged the harddrive, added heatsinks to the motherboard, updated the motherboard INF drivers, and finally, I burned in the CPU using Sandra all night at 933/1.9v.
I've cranked it up to 1071 (7X153) @ 1.95v several times today. This is totally max fsb and voltage on my mobo, and not completely stable yet like it is at 1050 MHz, but I'm working on it.. Benchmarks are looking great, I'm lovin' it.

Cool. Looking good Big Grasshopper:):)
I'm still slowly gettin' up there, but I think my Lil'Cely is about maxxed. I can post at 995 but get reg. error entering win. Can't up the voltage any more. Post at 995 is @ 2.05v. Mobo and slocket combo won't let me go 2.1v :(

I recently got a cco 700, its currently running at 1050, using default voltage tho. Seems i may have got a good chip, ordered another one the other day as well, hopefully that'll perform just as well. Dual 1050's, mmm..

Thatz awesome keep burning in until you can lower your voltage and take it higher. Just a suggestion. I know i am just as excited as you. I just got a abit bf6 from my brother and slapped it in with my Celeron II 700 and it does 1015 @ 2.2v stable, no games. Runs nicely. Burning in @ 903 (85fsb) @ 1.7v (default) I luv this, chip did only 877 on my p3v4x!!!
Little Grasshopper, you are sooo close to 1 gig. Probably need better cooling. Also, try this to see if Windows problems are holding you back like they were with me. Booting into Windows "Safe Mode" at 1+ gig. If so, try running Sandra CPU Benchmarking or 3DMark2000, or play the Unreal demo loop. If all is well, then your Windows registry is trashed like mine was, which slowly happens as you do a lot of overclocking. If not, maybe your system is maxed out. Good luck.
Orfice, 1.05 gig at default!!! Wow! Do you realize the potential of that chip? I can do 933 with default voltage (stable), so I bet you're good to go at least at little over 1.1 gig or more. I can't justify dual procs and I like to play games, but I've been lusting after the Abit VP6. Instead, I might go with the Abit SA6 RAID instead. :)
Carmine, as you found out, motherboards can make a big difference when overclocking. If you are low on cash, stay with that BX board, they're hard to beat. One thing that might help is that motherboards get hotter as fsb increases too. I bought a $12 Vantec chipset cooling pack that comes with 3 little heatsinks, a 40mm fan, adhesive thermal tape, and a few other misc. thingies. If the mobo northbridge chip has a heatsink, put a fan on it (old 486 CPU fans fit perfect). If there is no sink, put a cooler on it. Next, I put one of my extra little sinks on the southbridge chip. Then, I cut one of the other remaining sinks in half and put it on the ICS clock generator. While you're at it, those 40mm old 486 fans fit perfectly on a lot of video cards, since most tweakers overclock them too.
Well...my goal is to hit 1.07 gig at 1.9v so I'm working on some more cooling ideas myself and maybe will do a clean Windows install from scratch. Still have OS registry files messed up, I think. On the home page here at overclockers.com is an article about a guy who made a harddrive cooler out of an extra fan he had laying around. I might try doing that too. My 7,200 rpm ATA100 Maxtor gets a little warms sometimes, and that might build up heat in the system. Heat is the enemy.

Potential of the chip seems extremely good, its only currently running at 32c under full load. Unfortunately, i am still awaiting a bios update to allow voltage adjustment thro the bios, ecs are dragging their feet implementing it. The maximum the board can do is 160fsb as well, but even so, thats 1120, and that would be a nice overclock. Just hope my memory can do it, its currently running cas 2, turbo, 4 way interleave. So hopefully it will.
I dont think i'll be lucky enough to get a 2nd chip that performs as well, but hopefully i'll be able to run them both at 1008.
Anyone thats interested, its an SL4CH, philipines chip
Hey Orifice, if that new 700 you just ordered won't do more than 1050 MHz, then let's talk. My 700 is a Philipines cC0 like yours. I might be willing to trade for yours that will do 1050 at default voltage plus some cash (or some other trade). Personally I hope you get a perfect match, if you want to run dual procs, but if you get one that matches mine, think about it--thanks. BTW, I still have most of a 30 day warranty left.
Still rocking steady at 1.05 gig of P-III power! YES!
Update on my P-III 700 CPU. The burn in and all the little tweaks I've been doing seems to of helped a little. I'm now declaring 1.07 gig with benchmarks to back it up, and it will play Unreal too. I still get an infrequent random crash, especially when downloading, so I can't claim that it's 100% rock stable, but I bet lots of people posting their max results can't even benchmark or play 3D games. However, 1050 MHz is still the speed that it seems the most happy with (lower voltage and cooler running), so that's what I use most of the time. Never could of done it without the help of the overclockers.com!

Batboy...the water cooling rig is in the case, the board is hooked up, the pins are wired for 1.90V...and I'm still stuck at work!
I'll let you know if this poor little cB0 chip has 1Ghz in it. I was able to POST at 1008 (9x112), but it would not boot into Windows with air cooling. Too warm at 1.85V and I didn't want to risk it until...I got the water set up (like NOW!).
WTG on getting up there stably.
