ive just purchased an ORB heast sinkw/ fan, have i made a bad choice, i have been seeing all of these posts talking about alphas, and the globe processor coolers. do the ORB's do well at all with disapating heat?
i've already purchased "arctic silver".
what temperature threashold should i not exceed?
P3 800EB flipchip
Asus cusl2 i815 chipset
4case mounted fans(2 intake, 2outtake)
1) 51/4 mounted twin fan H/D cooler
i also have a question about the processors Vcore voltage,
should i leave it at the default voltage (1.70) when ovr'clocking
or try to increase Vcore voltage a BIT before messing with the front side bus, after messing w/ the FSB, or not al all?
this damn ovrclking mess is a LOT to keep up w/ and know!!!
to much little B.S. to have to know or else you'll end up frying you sys.!!
How about a user FRIENDLY overclocking utility! HAHA

Last spring and summer, the Golden Orb was great. They were really cheap, it worked better than retail fans and most other available coolers, it looked pretty, it was an excellent fit in most slotket situations, and did I mention, they were really cheap. I used on on my C-566/850 for at least 6 months. But, nowadays, especially since you have a 133 bus speed chip, there are better coolers if you plan on overclocking much. About voltage, you only increase it to gain stability as you increase your bus speed. As you increase speed and voltage, CPU and motherboard temps increase, hence the need for a really good CPU cooler and extra case fans.

I've got a Celeron 600 that will run up to 1053. for the longest time, I had it with a Gorb for cooling, and it would lock up when I would try to get it at 115 FSB (1035 MHz).

Right around the same time I switched motherboards, I got an Alpha PEP66T. My temps came down, and I was able to run it at 117 FSB stable (at 2.05v for all above settings).

Might be the new board, likely the Alpha, though.

Got it at 1020 MHz at 1.9v now. Stable.

The gorb is good up to a certain point/speed, but then it just can't cool sufficiently.

I had lots of people tell me to ditch it and get an Alpha, or GlobalWin FOP-38. Now I know why....

Where you're running a flip chip, I assume in a slocket, the best bet is the Alpha PEP66...The FOP-38 is almost as good.

I'd say the Gorb is ok up to about 900 MHz.

My $.02
