XP to MP problem

Well my dually is here, I got all of the parts I ordered. I followed the great article of cmquistion so here are my parts:

antec slk3700amb case (great case btw)
2 athlon xp modded to Mp (1 1700+, 1 1800+)
msi K7D master-L MB
1 stick of "normal" ddr400 ram 512MB infineon (it was the cheapest)
2 slk 800U heatsink with 80mm panaflow fan
sparkle fsp350-60Bt power supply
geforce 4mx440 graphic card

What I done:

I plug the MB with only the cpus with heatsink with the memory, a vid card and the PS.

I take a look and it's showed 2 MP processors GREAT!

So I put all the pieces togeter on the case then turn it on!

Now it said that there is only 1 MP

I remove the heatsink on the cpu2 to see , remove it then replace it, but it done nothing..

Can someone help me?

Troubleshoot each CPU, individually. Run just one CPU in the Primary Socket. Boot up and see if it reports as an XP or MP. If it reports as an XP, then that CPU mod is bad. Redo it. If it reports as an MP, then shut down and try the other CPU, by itself, in the Primary CPU socket. Boot up and see if it reports as an XP or MP. If it reports as an XP, then that CPU mod is bad. Redo it.

Testing each CPU, individually, is the best way to know which CPU is causing the problem.

I will try this, but I wonder why I been able to boot before and see 2 MP. I was thinking that the mod was good....:(

If I see at the boot-up screen 1 MP, doesn't means that the first cpu is ok and not the second??

You probably did a mod that has come undone. This can happen if you scratch the paint off, while installing a heatsink, or if you just don't get it on there, very well. It can also peel up, over time, because of heating up and cooling off. I recommend covering the mod, with a small piece of tape, to protect it.

No. This just means that one of the CPU's registers as an MP. It doesn't mean that it is the Primary CPU, necessarily.

Thanks for the answer , I will try it! The only problem is that I have no more defogger paint :( Must go buy another....

Ok I did the test, and the 2 cpu show MP on the first socket. So I put it in and everythings works! .....for now......:\
