I've been poking around, looking for really good multimeters, and I've heard Fluke, Greenlee, and Wavetek were good brands.

So what are the members' opinions on what the best sub-$100 multimeter is?

I've found this (http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/meterman/dmm/15xp.htm) and this (http://shop.store.yahoo.com/gulfportindustrial/dimu.html).

I will camp here with net until I get some responses :D

For less than 100 just buy something portable like a pocket meter
If you want to spend 500 then its a different story.
Good meter accessories cost over the amount you specify but don't worry about it, todays meters are pretty accurate for the money when you talk about a cheaper meter.

I got a pocket meter from RadioShack that appears to be accurate. it has all sorts of settings to modify the sensitivity. It will measure AC, DC, and Ohms at various sensitivities. Pretty handy for $20.

How good do you need it to be?
Personally, my $20 Radio shack cheapo can do things I can't . :D

Just how accurate is it? Close enough. ;)

If you really need and understand the features of the good ones- most of the electrical/electronics type I have known liked Fluke meters.

I checked out the Flukes and they were all incredibly expensive

I'm in Cisco, training up to be a Network Admin, and the teacher told us we would need a multimeter at some point or another, later in the class and probably on the job; so I want to get one I know is good and will last me for hopefully quite a while.

I use a RatShack one that cost like 40$. It works great for the stuff i do with it.

If you're going to be using it on the job, just take the hit of the extra cash and get one of the low end flukes. Anything else is kinda like buying an ECS motherboard: sure, it's cheap, but you're going to have problems with it and you're going to wish you got a better one. There's some older flukes going for about $50 on ebay.

I use flukes every day in lab and they are excellent. You're looking to spend hundreds on a good fluke setup though.

If you're looking for a nice portable unit, spend around $30 on a Craftsman or something similar. If you decide you need a very expensive one later on, go ahead and buy one then.

Craftsman meters are fine for around the house as are the radio shack meters although if you have the money to spend the fluke 110 or 112 are good entry level meters and they can be had for about 100.00. I have the 179 for work and around the house and really like it.

Alright, thanks for your input guys; I'll see into getting one of those Flukes.
