View Full Version : Is a P133 or P166 OC-able?
I am new to OC-ing. I just got a new PC (T-bird 900Mhz). As I looked at my old trusted P133 which still runs and plays my MP3s very well, I was thinking if I could squeeze any last bit of service out of it.
Then OC-ing came to mind from the depths of my mind. I remembered having read about it before. So I searched the Net for tips and found that advice on these older machines was virtually none.
Is it because it i impossible to OC these old pentiums due to some reason or is it simply not worth the effort that I can't find anything at all? Please don't ask me to upgrade or anything cos I just got a new PC. I just want to get more outta the old machine. If it is not advisable, pls say so cos the old machine is still running perfectly.

It probably isnt worth trying to o/c them.... my experience with them was totally not worth the effort.... if its chugging along fine, leave it til it pukes!! fire up that athlon to new heights where results will actually be noticable! gl

I have a few pentiums in my sock drawer which i used to run higher than what they said on a standard compaq board with a standard heatsink.
P90 - got it up to 100Mhz
P120 - got it up to 133Mhz
P150 - got it up to 166Mhz (I think this was a P133, I'll check for you tonight and tell you tommorow)
P166MMX - got it up to 233Mhz
I only go huge increases with the 166, but i'm sure that you could squeeze some life out of it, probaly get 150Mhz. See if there are some switches (called SW1 on my board) and try various combinations.
Let me know how it goes!
I had a 166 running at 200 (non MMX) in the days before the 233's were around. You should look at the switches on the motherboard and give it a try (as the poster above has said).

I used my standard heatsink on my p133 and got it to 180 (60x3) Runs great, gotta voodoo2 in there and plays quake 3 arena! I got a 1.2gb all virtual memory and 48mb edo ram. Runs aas servers, and plays the games just fine!
I tried a 198Mhz. (33x6) It din POST.
Trying some other combinations now. The mobo this 133 sits on is kinda out of the world. I can't identify what make it is. I had this system custom made by a friend of mine like 4 years ago and he couldn't tell me what make the mobo was.
Try Sandra. It may give you the motherboard name and model.
If Sandra doesn't work you can look on the board itself for any model designation. Then go to a search engine and if the numbers on the motherboard are "456dfg" then do a search on 456dfg and motherboard. If you are lucky you will find the manufacturer and then you will be able to read the manual for the board.
