3.2: Northwood
3.2E (?): Prescott
Is 3.2 Extreme Edition: 3.2EE ?

What do pics of EE show in the codes that says it's an EE and not an E Prescott?

you have it right.

The q is how would you tell if you're holding an EE chip in your hands?

Would it be a 3.2EE ?

and a 3.2E would be a Prescott ?

What he's asking is if you looked on the CPU heatspeader, what is printed there? Does it actually say 3.2EE? I'm assuming so, but I don't know since I've never actually looked at one and I can't find a good pic.

A normal northwood has a sparse scattering of little black things in the middle of the pins. The back of the CPU right in the middle between all the pins should be sparsly populated with little black square things while on an EE, it's very densly populated with these little black things.

where spec are on the IHS it reads

3.2GHZ/2M/800 Or speed /cache/FSB Thats on an EE

I imagine a prescott would say 3.2/1M/800 for its 1meg of level 2cache.

and a vanilla does read 3.2GHZ/512K/800

Also you could look at the Sspec and go to intel's website to find out which one it is.

And Newegg does have an EE pictured on there site to show what they look like

You're saying there's no 3.2E on the Prescott then?

So you have:
Prescott: 3.2GHZ/1M
EE: 3.2GHZ/2M

But what about Northwood then? 3.2GHz/1M is true for both Northwood as well as Prescott,

are you sure it's not 3.2E/1M for Prescott?

You're saying there's no 3.2E on the Prescott then?

Probably not since intel doesn't list the core revision letter on the IHS

But what about Northwood then? 3.2GGH/1M is true for both Northwood as well as Prescott,

Not true, the nothwood does not have a 1meg cache, only a 512K cache that is listed on the IHS. For a small time i owned a 3.2 nothie and it had on the IHS 3.2GHZ/512K/800

1MB cache version of Northwood (Q1 2004) is cancelled then?

Never knew there would be a nothwood with the 1meg cache.
only the prescott. Where did ya find such info?

Looked all over the place and couldn't find the source of the 1MB cache Northwood rumor. Since it's the second half of January 2004, unless someone else here can remember anything about, it may be safe to assume that the only Northwood that's left to be released is the 512KB cache 3.4 GHz chip in a month or two.
