Ok, so I overclocked to a measley 3 ghz (see my specs in my sig) and all of a sudden I had no sound. I check my audio devices and Windows XP Pro doesn't recognize any audio devices installed.

I popped in my cd for my mobo to reinstall the drivers, for the built in audio, and a dialog box came up saying "since you don't have a CMI chip on your system, you can't install these drivers."

My motherboard has ac97 built into the mobo.

So what the heck is the problem? When i reset all my bios settings back to default and reboot, suddenly Windows XP recognizes my audio devices again.

Also when I clicked on Control Panel and clicked on "CMI Audio Config" nothing happened, the computer just sat there.

Its obviously related to the overclock, is it just a cooling issue?

Thanks in advance!

Did you lock the PCI/AGP bus when you overclocked. I have had problems with the PCI devices not working if the PCI frequency is out of range.

No, I didn't lock the pci/agp bus. Should I have?

Yeah you should lock it if you can. Some Board/Chipsets only let you use dividers, but lock it at 33/66 if you can. See if that works.

Ok, sweet thanks. I will try that when I get home tomorrow (too tired tonight and have to get up).

I'll post here and let you know how it goes.

Alright, the pci/agp setting I locked it on was 33/66/100. This took care of the audio problem and it works great now! (Thanks!)

There is however a new problem.

When I overclock my cpu up to around 3.12 ghz, I'm fine. When I overclocked to 3.25 ghz I would get a few weird lines across windows xp and then windows would freeze. A dialog box would come up saying windows has turned off video acceleration on my vpu to protect it and then the problems would persist.

So now it appears I am having a video problem.

Thanks in advance!
