Hello, I just bought a SOYO-7VCA motherboard VIA chipset onboard. I put on my new P3 and an Alpha Heatsink to go along with it. My MB only allows me to increase my VCore to 1.89V but I can raise the bus speed as much as you can think... I have 128M of PC133 RAM. If you couldn't tell, I'm still kind of new to this. Does anyoen have any suggestions? I have it running at a stable 901MHz, 1.89V, but if I increase the bus speed one more notch, the whole system freezes upon boot, or while loading windows. I've had it at 1GHz ONCE and it crashed right as I was making a screenshot=) Please help me out, thanks!

Hey, maybee thats as far as your ship will go... not all can make a gig. 901MHz is still pretty fast, but if it crashes frequently id say your pretty much at the max.

The thing is that my friend owned this processor before I did. He has more RAM and way more experience in overclocking than I do. But he had it at 1GHz stable and got a few screenshots to prove it to me. So I know this can make it... I'm not sure what's holding it back though. Maybe more RAM... maybe a better heatsink? I have no idea but I know it can get there!

i bet it can go more. find out if its a cco or cbo chip(search the forum for good definitions). then get some temperature readings. also post your whole set up specs even the stuff that you dont think maters. with enough details someone will recognize the problem and give you what you need. have fun. dont get frusterated. my prob was a ata66 hd running of my ata100 slot on my mobo. so it can be any honest mistack.

I would suggest better ram...try to get some ram garanteed to do 150mhz, you can get it for about $100.00 U.S. for 128mb...and if all you are using is the factory heatsink..or a cheap aftermarket type, I would suggest getting an Alpha or GlobalWin heatsink, and Arctic silver thermal compound..and you might see a few more mhz.

Hey Phantom..my mobo is ata 100, and is backward compatible with ata66/33 as well, so maybe you didn't use the drivers right, or something...unless it is a bx chipset

What is your PCI divider set on? At 120FSB your either going to be under or over spec.
