You need some more memory first off. 128 will not cut it with any OS unless its like Windows 95. This is a pretty good buy at Newegg.com for 256 mb of Crucial PC2100. Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-001&catalog=147&depa=1)

As far as a case goes, that is a pretty personal choice. What color and size would you prefer?

Check out Newegg for whatever you need. The prices are the best and shipping is usually free.

You can't go wrong with Fortron PSU. They are sturdy
& stable units.
The PC Power & Cooling units are very nice, and
have a three year warranty. But they have a very large
price tag as well.

After trying a few Fortron model PSU I would NOT recommend
the units with the single 120mm bottom fan.
It seemed like a good idea at first. However, once it was
hooked up and the system OCed, I discovered that most of the air
remained trapped within the body of the unit.
This made it more noisy, and didn't help with cooling either. :(

The Fortrons with the single 80mm back fan were more
quiet and resulted in lower internal temps as well.

As always ... just my humble two cents.
Good luck! :D

about that 1700, you're gonna have a hard time finding one...just get the 2100 from newegg....alot of people have been getting tbred b with good steepings so there is 2.2-2.5 at only 62bucks

Yeah...you will need more ram for stability issues. Everything else seems fine you you are just planning to use it for little to no gaming and just basic computing

Hey, Jpantoga, I'm wise-skiier's friend. :D

Anyways, he's going to need a proc that has high multi as his mobo won't reach FSB speeds in execess of 166mhz. After that, it's all multi OC'ing. I know 'cause he has my old board. Also, the ram he currently has will do approx 145mhz even if it is crappy.

BTW, he doesn't have a good vid-card either. He's using the on-board video which is 32mb Savage8. :( Maybe you could recommend him a good cheap card that would fit his budget. Anything that's somewhat fast will work.

The poor kid's been using mac's 'till now. He also uses a piece-o-junk lappy (it's his father's too) to play starcraft on. I really feel sorry for him.
