The bad news is that my cB0 Celeron died last night when I tried to fire up the system in the new case. The good news is that Intel is out of C2-600s and PIII-600s and they're going to replace it with something better. I am just awaiting the e-mail with the RMA#.
Hopefully, they are out of 633's and 666(7)s too and I will get a 700! A guy can hope!
I should be up and running on the backup machine tonight, and I'll have the primary box going as soon as the new CPU arrives. Intel was very considerate on the phone, and is standing behind the retail 3-year warranty. With all the issues regarding warranty claims on equipment nowadays, it's nice to see someone back their product.
Getting a 700 Cerermine could be a double edged thing... If it overclocks well then it's alright, but if it is one of the sluggish ones, there could be some PCI problems coming your way.
I asked this in another thread too. How did you kill it? Were you trying to bring it up to at a high speed with high voltage on a new board?
Anyone care to make a wager that intel is "out of" C II 600's, because they're going to start re-labeling them as 900E Celerons??
If they'll do it w/ the 533a to 800E, why not 600 to 900E, as well.

Sorry for the delay in responding, the dead machine was my primary box, and I needed a Motherboard for the old processor I had (an unlocked P2-233). In response to your question Marty, no. I always bring it up at default when building or rebuilding to make sure nothing unwelcome happens. This one just quit.

UPDATE:
Intel has graciously informed me that they are sending the Devil's own 666, I mean "667", as a replacement in the RMA exchange. In the meantime, I bought a socket adapter for my new mobo and I will try the cpu one more time to ensure that it really isn't my board (Lord I hope not!). All indications are that it's the processor, not the board, but you can never be absolutely sure until you test it out.

Looks like the CPU is OK! I had to buy a new mobo to resurrect the backup machine (Slot 1 P2-233) and I got a socket adapter at the same time. On the off chance that the CPU might be OK, I tried it. It's alive! The old Mobo is belly up, not the chip. Funny thing, It was running at default at the time. Must've been bad Karma or something. Anyway, the CPU is in the new case, on the new mobo, WATERCOOLED, and running 810MHz at default voltage and 3*C over ambient. I am playing a CD, Folding@home, and browsing with 2 windows open. She's stable as a rock. Now if I could only hear over this fan noise, life would be good.
Pictures to follow soon.
