Since the 74gb raptors are now out, and they have updated internals (besides the extra platter)....hence why they have a 4.5ms seek time, instead of the 5.2ms time of the 36.7gb raptor. Does anyone know the plans of WD to release a 2nd gen 36gb with the faster seek time?
Thanks. I would like to buy two of these to raid, but do not really want to until the new ones come out. Thanks.

This could be due to more density per platter as well. I also read in a review that they have a few new server oriented features such as the “rotary accelometer feed forward technology” (lol) that allows the drive to sense vibration and adjust its server system to ensure accuracy, and native command queuing (no current host adapters support it yet). I cant see either really making a difference at this point so being that both drives run at 10k that much seek performance would have to stem from platter density imo…
I had an earlier thread on this, and someone said that they emailed WD and got a negative on the 2nd gen 36GB deployment. Who knows, they might eventually do it, but it doesn't seem to be any time soon if at all.
Oh god, it's like 1 extra ms, just get the ones they have out now.
It's more than that, its the increased STR, command queuing, and improved firmware. Check out Storagereview's benches for the real deal.
