I'm in the market for Celeron 600. I have never overclocked before so I thought this would be a good processor to start with. Anyway my question is do some Celeron 600 just overclock better than others. Or are they all the same. I read someplace that you just have to get lucky and get a processor that overclocks well. Testing them is the only way of knowing if they will overclock well or not. Is this true?

Thanks

I would say that most will do at least 900, there are the odd few that won't reach the 100mhz bus and get straddled by the board to slow speeds such as 675, most that don't reach 900 will do 750 if your system compnents can handle the extra bus speed, I would say that as long as you get a new cCO and a decent heatsink and thermal compound then 900 should be quite easy and maybe higher, mine will do 1.08ghz with Artic Silver and an FOP 32-1 with an 80mm 47cfm fan on it and at 1.9v

Yep, what Phil said. If you want instant gratification and first time success, go with the Celeron 566 or 600. I've never seen one that won't run at least 75 MHz bus speed right out of the box with just the retail fan. Most will do 900 MHz with little effort. Maybe a couple cooling mods and a bump in voltage at most.
