I have a GameTheater XP (the first model that came out two years go..) and a set of ProMedia 2.1's. The problem that I have recently noticed is there is a slight buzzing/popping sound in the right channel. You know, the dreaded sound when you think you might have blown a tweeter. The weird thing is, when I play 128 Kb/s MP3's, the sound is prevalent, but not very loud. When I play 192 KB/s mp3's, there is no sound at all. 192 MP3's sound perfectly clear and fine.
Very odd...anyone might know an explanation to this? Most of my MP3's are 192 anyway, but it gets really annoying when an 128 KBPS mp3 is playing.
Is it possible that the 128Kbit MP3s just have clicks and pops in them. And sometimes there are backround sounds in songs that you usually don't hear unless you are listening for them. ;)
128Kbit mp3s are roughly radio quality. I wouldn't be a tiny bit surprised they have all sorts of errors in them. I never listen to anything under 192 anyhow, it just sounds bad to me.
Agreed, I think it's the mp3 that has encoding errors in it. I know that I have a few 128kbps and even some 320kbps mp3's that have noticable hiss/popping/distortion in them. I would look for cleaner versions of those songs as over time the clicking/popping may damage your speakers. Also note that Klipsch does not reccomend listening to mp3's of less than 128kbps.
