My inlaws have a DSL modem with only a USB cable coming out of it. Is it possible to connect this thing to the WAN-port of a standard ethernet router if we use a USB-to-LAN adapter between the DSL modem and WAN-port?! They've been sharing internet through the first PC connected to the DSL modem until now, but we need to extend their network and badly need a router for easier configuration etc.

Nope. That modem must be connected to a computer. The best thing you can do is use a proxy like you are doing.

Thanx. I already figured so cuz if I'm correct the PC needs to (software) support the USB-to-LAN adapter and this isn't available in the router ofcourse. I'll have them call their ISP on Monday and ask for a standard ethernet DSL modem. They upgraded their account last month anyway. Besides their two desktop PC's there's now a notebook added and they're constantly running back and forth between the main internet PC and the others. A router will be so much easier...
