Right now, I'm running a Celeron 566 @ 850 (very stable) on a Asus CusL2 mobo with 256 MB PC 100 SDRAM. I have the overclocking bug again and would like to try a PIII. Any suggestions on which PIII will give me the most bang for the buck? Obviously, I would like to hit more than 850; maybe something closer to 1 gig. without changing RAM or my mobo. Also, is RDRAM necessary for any of the PIIIs and can my CUSL2 handle RDRAM? Thanks.

The best overclocker for the money is the PIII 700 for about $126. Most will get somewhere between 933 MHz and 1 GHZ. Some will go to 1050 MHz. Mine has been running at 970 MHz+ since July, and has been at 994 MHz since October. It will run regular Windows apps at 1011 MHz and can even run for a while at 1050 MHz.

No PIII requires RDRAM. Due to the internal architecture of the PIII, RDRAM doesn't offer much of a performance advantage over SDRAM anyway.

well if your ram is only pc 100 won't you have a hard time getting it overclocked above 133??? why not stick with the celrey, and buy new pc 133 cas 2 ram an overclock your 566 to i gig??? that is what i am going to do as soon as i get some good pc 133 cas 2-2-2 ram

I hadn't thought of that. Since RAM is so cheap right now, I'll give it a try. Thanks.

bartek is wrong. Your Ram will overclock to the same amount as with your celly. The p3 700E is the best chip for overclocking. With your current ram you can get to around a gig still.

Also, you would get much more performance going to the p3 700E than getting new ram for almost the same price.
