I was ****ed off at my router and having bought a new d-link router i decided to pop open the case. To my suprise i found a ma401 netgear wireless card inside (w/o metal casing). Im woundering how much effort it would take to make this thing usable in a laptop?

If you're sure its just a decased wireless card that will work in a laptop then it should work fine. I know some wireless PCI cards were simply internal PCMCIA adapters equipped with laptop wireless cards.
If you are careful and leave it in the laptop, you can probably run w/o the case...if you cannot find a case.
Go to a local computer shop, ask them if they have any dead PCMCIA cards, maybe an old modem or something. They'll probably let you have it, especially if they have something dead lying around. You can then pop that case around your wireless nic.
