I have a SB Live, and I simply don't have the room for anything beyond 2.1. Not even 4.1.
So w/that said..I have some stock Boston Acoustics from Gateway they do a nice job alright..But I have heard some better 2.1s out of Creative, and was wondering if anyone has any ideas what's good out there. Will be playing streamed music from Internet via WinAmpv5, MP3s and of course games of many genres.

Mabye the Zalman surround sound headphones??
I have the Creative 2.1 (and 4.1) and im reasonably happy with them. There a sort of mid range and sound is nice.
TBH if you really want a decent system get an Audigy2 & a good set of 2.1's (possibly digital - 5.1's if you find space :))......... the difference is amazing. I love my audigy to bits now and am getting a new GFX card and prob speakers as a result.

the determining factor here is the budget you are on, since you definitely want 2.1, a budget will help us in making a choice for you :)

SO I won't spend the money on a card like the Audigy, as it will be outdated by a year's time.
However speakers will be good.
My price range is up to 100, maybe 110, but I would prefer something in the 50-80dollar range.
see if ebay has a used or refurb pair of Klipsch promedia 2.1
Altec Lansing MX5021 (http://www.fastlanehw.com/reviews.php?action=view&revid=73) (new, $125.00) or 221 (http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/altec221/) (new, $35).

i think you should check out the logitech Z-2200, its the 2.1 version of the z680's. Not totally sure on the price but its RRP is 149 so i'd say u could get them for 120
So I had my computer hooked up to a home stereo system and I wasn't getting the clarity and imaging i wanted for games and music so i wanted to get a 2.1 speaker set so I could use it for the front channel and the stereo for surround sound that I could turn on while I played games. I saw the altec lansing xa3021 at target for 40 bucks and thought it was worth a try. They are truly AMAZING for their price. I even bought some logitech's for about the same price to compare, the altecs blew them away. go to the site and check em out they have a pretty crazy design. They are supposed to be used for TV and console games I guess but you can use it for the computer as well. You will just need to get either an optical audio cable or a splitter. The speakers have an optical input and rca inputs. That will cost another 3-5 bucks. The bass is awesome and theres different EQ settings. Theres also 2 headphone outputs on the volume controller. For 40 bucks you will get speakers that are better than a lot of more expensive speakers. I was really amazed and it's a great deal.
I'd recommend some Creative Labs speakers that use the digital DIN connector on your SB Live, if you can find some.
I have an older Creative 4.1 (FPS2000) system that sounds amazing with the digital interface.
I just built a system for my father. He's using the onboard sound on his A7N8X Deluxe (Nvidia Soundstorm) and the Logitech Z-340's. Their only about $45, are very high quality, and sound great.
Personally, I use the Promedia 2.1's. They sound better than the Logitech's, but they're also $170. I'm not sure they sound $125 better.
