View Full Version : Abit SE6 mobo users (attention Marty)
Well, when looking up reviews of the Abit SA6R motherboard I plan on buying soon, they keep comparing it to the SE6 (both are i815 chipsets) and saying the instability problems of the SE6 were not in the SA6R.
Hey, what instability problems??? So I researched the SE6 and found many tech articles and reviews complained that the SE6 is not stable using the memory CAS 2 BIOS setting above 133 MHz fsb.
It's true, from past experience, I have to run CAS 3 at high bus speeds with my setup. I tried some experimenting just now and confirmed this again. So, thought all you SE6 owners might want to know. Time for me to get a SA6R board, I think.
Thanks for posting this. I sure would concur that CAS2 is not easy for me to do even with that stick of Micron CAS2 that is supposed to be so hot.
I am wondering too if some of my trouble getting over 980 is due to using the onboard video. I noticed from another post that you have the GeForce.
I am pretty sure that the only way I can justify going to a different motherboard is to give this machine to my dad or my daughter. My dad needs to go on a cable modem and until he OKs that I can't see getting him a faster machine.

This is my experience with cas-settings on the Abit SE6. Its as simple as this I run cas 2 upto an including 156 fsb. At 157 fsb i switch to cas 3.
Early reviews including preproduction reviews found sum probs. Abit has addressed these problems.
I have found the Abit SE6 to be a great board.

I bought my SE6 last summer, so it's a real early board. Maybe the memory has a lot to do with it too, but above 137 fsb, I have to switch to CAS 3. I'm not knocking the SE6, it's been a fine board, but I have it maxed out right now as far as fsb and voltage. Time for me to upgrade to Soft Menu III, and RAID controller...drool...
So Warduck,
What BIOS version are you running and what type of RAM (if it is a brand name) do you have. Also do you have more than one stick of RAM?

Well, I have no such problems on my 815E chipset board(Abit SH6), and I am running at a comfortable 150fsb...and I could go higher...up to 154 cas2 with my stick of rev2, and can do 156cas2 with the rev3, with both sticks, I can do 158cas3, and have only tried 154cas2 with both sticks together.
I will try a higher bus speed @ cas2, and report where I top out.
