View Full Version : (yet another) underperforming 9800pro
I have no idea why, but I'm only getting 13939 in 3dmark01; this is on a fresh install of WinXP with the 3.10 cats. Now I understand my system might be a bottleneck, but this extreme? Shouldn't I be getting at least 15k?
Before anyone asks, settings are set to high performance and AA/AF are off.

Did you install the chipset drivers?
Make sure in the Display settings everything is on Performance. VSync is off. AA and AF are set to the lowest AND Application Preference.
Also, check your Nature FPS's. If they are low, enable fast writes, and 8x and make sure AGP Aperature is 128mb

As for nature, I checked with a friend with an nforce2 and 9800np who clocked to the same speeds and the nature fps is exactly what it should be. He got 15606. All the other games have much lower framerates.
Here's my compare link at the same speeds:

AGP Aperture at 64mb is by far the best option for 128mb video cards.
My recommendation would be to use something not so system dependatnt to actually root out wether the problem is your video card, or something else in your system. 3DMark2k3 or Aquamark should do the trick

^^^^ that seems normal for your set up.

i can't say for your setup, but for mine agp apeture size was by far the best at 128mb. it's worth experimenting.
Yeah, the 3dmark03 score seems normal, but not 3dmark01... tweaking with the aperture size might help, but isn't this at least a 1000 point deficiency?
Your FSB/RAM is probably really messing up your score.
The people getting the impossibly high scores you read about are ones with superty-duper intel machines running @ 3.5 ghz and like a bagillion million FSB.
If you were to ask me, it's not a problem with the card. That is 100% apparent from your 2k3 scores. The problem must be somewhere else. Perhaps you have some sort of a kamikazee driver somewhere, sabotaging your score.
(edit) Took another gander at your scores, you're actually getting pretty damned good scores for your system in 2k1.

Like everyone esle it getting at is I would really worry about 3dmark 2001 scores anymore because the score jumps so high with high fsb yet real games don't jump that much so I just see it as lame. If real games are working at good fps than why dink around with your system to get a score out of a fake out of date benchmark.

Need to see the CPU score. If you are at 166 FSb in your sig, then your system is the reason for the lower score.

Then set your pagefile to 3000min, And 3000max. This will give a pretty good jump in scores in 2001.
PS, This DOES help.

So if my system is limiting my video card then why did Gautam get ~15600 at the exact same speeds (fsb, proc and video card) and RAM timings?
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7462077 (that's his 3dmark01; I'll post my 3dmark03 in a sec)
harryinny3, I'll try that. Thanks.

I just tried Different drivers this morning. Tested the 3.7 against the 3.10. Im sticking with the 3.7 I got a 500 mark boost in 2001 and a 200 mark boost in 2003. Went from 18400 with 398/351 oc to 18952 with same overclock. One thing i did find was when i flashed my card to an updated bios with clocks set to 398/ 351 clock rates, My card performs much better than it did with a third party oc utility.
So in short, The 3.7 drivers STILL rock.
Hope ya get this worked out.

Run your benches with your internet connection dissabled, Turn off norton or whatever you might have running in the taskbar. This will also help alot. I dont mean to sound like you dont know what your doing, thats not my intention. Im just trying to help ya get that score up is all.
Just didnt want you taking my advice the wrong way.
Harry
Heh, no problem.
I'm connected to a router via ethernet so I don't think disconnecting will help that much (like I said, there probably has to be a larger cause for this deficiency). Never use antivirus programs and never will.
3dmark 01 is based alot of fsb.
if this helps, here are my results (box 2 in my sig)
3dmarks01 stock 15*133.31 14333
14*143.18 14578
13*154.20 14907
12*168 15359
10*200 16226
11.5*200 17010
3dmarks03 stock 15*133.31 5249
13*154.20 5320
11.5*200 5478

a 500 point diff in 2001 is nothing really - i get that after running it again after a clean reboot or again right away.
