I did something similar a few weeks ago :D Took off the heatsink from my 9500 to measure where the holes are (gonna make a replacement HS), but when I put it back on all I got were horrible beeps!!
NOOOOOOO!! Don't tell me I've just fried something!!!
Turns out I forgot to plug the video card's power cable and monitor cable in

I installed a thermal probe under my cpu and rushed it through pretty hardcore. Then I tried to boot and got nothing... wtf??? Then I looked up and saw my ram sitting on the floor in front of me.
There really should be a hand inside every monitor to reach and slap people when they do such moronic things

then I would be dead now, I have forgotten to plug in almost every wire from the ide cables to the power cables.
lol. my mother had a similar experience with her printer.
i came home for break and the next day she is sitting at her pc trying to print out some acounting stuff. I walk into the office and she is under her big desk trying to figure out what was wrong cause the printer wouldn't print. she went about plugging and unplugging things for like 10 minutes when I said "let me take a look." 5 seconds later i discovered that the printer ws not turned on. we had a good laugh after

I was fixing a friends computer and installing new ram, and I kept getting a keyboard error and the mouse wouldnt work. I must have sat there for 15 minutes jiggling the wires and freaking out that I just screwed up the mother board.
Any guesses as to what I did wrong? This is an easy one, first person to guess it gets a "favor" from my dog.

i was working on my friends dell (easy $25!;D) and when i dusted off his video card and put it back in (it also wasnt on when i got there and pulled out the card) when i turned it on it booted normaly and yet no video....i though i killed his card with static...looked at every single thing and it was fine, then i looked at the moniter and it was on input 2 not input 1...not even my mistake lol

yea me too, one time i forgot to plug in the cdrom back in so i unplugged the power to it to get in and plug the cable back in but i forgot to plug the power to it, so i plug power back in and when i did that i accidently unplugged the power to the floppy, well i went in and removed the floppy cable and put power back to that but forgot to plug the cable back in, so the next time i made sure everything was plugged in this time.

Thats not so bad, I built a Computer for my brother's kids:D and he did not realize the monitor had to be pluged into the AC. He has another computer too.

I am more n00b though I don't even know what arctic silver is. And the closest thing I did to a mod was I changed my PSU and had to cut some of the metal on the back of my case off so that I could stick the power cord into the outlet on the power supply since my new PSU's outlet is in a different spot than my old one, and the old one was meant for my case.
