View Full Version : What can I do with this ABIT ZM6? What can it handle?

Hi, I just registered here, so please cut me a little slack. I have a basic knowledge of overclocking, and terminoligy, so I will understand most related subjects.

Anyway, almost 2 years ago I bought an ABIT ZM6 motherboard, and a Celeron 400ppga processor. I was looking for a cheap, but powerful setup. Coming off a 200mmx, this was acceptable for the price, considering it clocked up to 500.

Anyway, I realize that the multipliers are limited to 6? even though it allows higher choices in the settings.

Now I want to buy a faster chip. The question of the day is, "What is my ABIT capable of handling?"

I want a cheap chip, that will overclock in the range of 800mhz. Can this Abit mobo take faster chips? I tried to search the internet to find its limits..but as far as I can tell, that issue is not addressed. So can it handle any chip? Is that the deal? I just dont want to buy a chip, only to find out its too fast, or its bus is to high for my mobo, and I have to buy a new one. Get the picture?

Thanks alot!

Reccomendations are always welcome. Keep in minde, I want to keep the Abit zm6. Just looking for possible cpu upgrade options.

It *might* be able to take cb0 stepping celeron 2's with the latest BIOS, so you could say get a Celeron 2 566 and OC to 850MHz... be sure to try and find other users doing the same though, check the CPU database to see if there are any entries using the ZM6 with cb0 Celeron 2's

I have several ZM6's running 566 cb0 celermines at 850 and above. They work just fine, but the bios doesn't allow the Vcore to go very high, so you may have to wrap the pins to get enough voltage. Otherwise they work fine, although a little slower than the identical board with the BX chipset. (BM6)

the overclocking index shows people using the 600 celeron in the zm6. ??
