I would like to make an e-mail server for myself like mike@mikesserver.com for instance. I have a 500 Mhz computer with 256 MB of memory running Windows XP. This is the family computer so I wouldn't want to load another OS on it. I have have a 50 Mhz 486 with Windows 3.1 that isn't used anymore; I doubt it would work as a mail server but if it would that would be cool. So, will the 486 work as a mail server and with what OS/software will it need. If that wouldn't work then what program would be needed to use my current computer without changing it from Windows XP. The computers would be on a 3000/256 cable line and the amount of mail would be minimal. Thanks a bunch in advance to anyone that could help me with this.

Depending on your IP setup (ie. static or dynamic) you may need to use www.no-ip.com and register a domain either their or somwhere else, and transfer the domain to have the ability to be used by no-ip. I bought my domain name from somewhere else, and then setup the no-ip plus option, and did it that way, saved me some cash. If you have a static IP, just tell your domain supplier to point it to your IP.

Then, download this (http://www.mailenable.com)

Download the free version of course. It will do all you need, just remember to Read The Fantastic Manual, hehehe.

Hope that helps!
