Hi I just brought a p3 700 FCPGA, and am trying to overclock it. I managed to get it running at 933 at 1.70v but not stable. I was wondering what else I could change other than CPU core voltage, and how does that effect the overclocking? I.E. Vcore

Any advice will be appreciated.

got a VP6, p3 700, 512 ECC DELL ram, quantum 20gig plus some crappy viper 550 (for now)

If it will run at 933 out of the box with no BIOS tweaks then it will probably overclock very well.

Since he has a VP6 he can up the voltage the smallest increments available in the softmenu and see how much stability that brings. Make sure not to go too high in voltage without considering a really good heatsink/fan combo.

Use a motherboard monitoring program of some type to make sure the temps stay under 40 C for most of the time. 40 is somewhat conservative, but since you are helping a friend I wouldn't suggest allowing the heat to go much higher.

Consider trying a software cooler like Rain, CPU Idle, Softcooler or Wincooler. They will give you a bit of "free" cooling. That is they will keep the PIII a bit cooler with or without a great heatsink.

You will also want to tweak the BIOS a bit and should read the overclocking guides which can be linked to from the main page of this site.

But I have to tell you that I am jealous. I am sure that if your friend wants to go higher than 933, the chip will do it and if not it should be rock solid at 933.
