Well, if you think about it, the price really is NOT that bad.
1 tera = 1,000 gigs.

1,000gigs @ $1,200 = $1.20 a gig. Last year when I bought my Barracuda it was $90 for an 80 gig, which is like $1.10

Figure a 250gig WD is 218, in my head that's like $.85 a gig, or $872 for a terabyte. Now realize that this is used as an external/internal, and you don't have to lug around 5 hard drives.

It's really not THAT expensive.

Wow, thats ridiculous.

Is that one drive, or two drive compacted into one unit, and sold as one single terabyte drive?

It's gotta be multiple drives within one unit... Or we would be seeing larger drives from other HDD manufacturers.

Holy old news. And the price has seemed to jumped mildly from $1,200 $2,000.

it's 4 drives
we have ones at work that are 500gb, which are 2x250. they're half as wide as those are (about 2.5 inches instead of 5 inches, as those seem to be).

Figured... I think I just saw an article a few days ago on the first 400 GB external drives just coming out (I think it was one real drive, that was external). Dunno if that is true either, but I saw it sitting somewhere in a tech news header.

Is it one single 1Tb drives in that box two 500gig. Also image how much you loose all at once if you the 1Tb died. Im pretty sure you cannot trust raid0 with 4x250 wdc drives, you probally want at least 5 drives for raid5.

they're not doing any kind of RAID inside there

I heard they are making these terrabyte harddrives that works on the same principle that CD writers work on, except the thing will be 3D, like a 3D cube... with 1 read and 1 write lazer...

and the space will be tiny, and the write speeds willbe way beyond what we will ever need, but i cant find an online article about it anymore
