hey sup guys i have linksys BEFSR41 and the newest motorola surfboard cable modem (the black one) and i get random HUGE lag spikes and my internet goes really slow. i called my provider cablevisoin and they said the signal is fine. they thought it was the modem so i swapped it which is ewhy i have the new one but i still get the problem. I think it's the router wat should i do? upgrade the firmware or something? it's getting annoying happens like everyday

try connecting directly to the modem - try that out and see if it fixes it.

if your router is wireless, play with the wireless performance settings some - wireless has a tendency to sometimes mess with your router and cause giant spikes

(i went through this about a week ago; took me forever to find out what it was ;))

Do you have a way to watch your throughput? Check something like www.bandwidth.com and check your speeds. When it starts dropping, try pinging a site and see if you're dropping packets. If you are, try disconnecting your router and see if it still does the same thing.
