View Full Version : [SOLVED] unlock FSB and multiplier on intel Pentium II 266
is there anyway i could unlock fsb and multiplier on motherboard or intel pentium II cpu
pentium II 266 @ 320(with softfsb)
Cpu type: original oem processor
platform: slot 1[sc242 connector]
motherboard: intel AL440LX
Cpu: 266 mhz
sytem bus: 66mhz
multiplier: 4.0 mhz
Ram: 128 66mz
A few of the real early P-II chips had unlocked clock multipliers. The rest were multipier locked. The fsb never has been "locked" but does require a motherboard that has adjustable fsb settings.
depending on how old it is the multiplyer may only be limited which means you can't go higher but you can go lower, I had a p2 233 that was limited but it also couldn't run on a 3x multiplyer only a 2.5x, to get around the fsb option you need to cpver up or cut the pin b21 on the pcb, this will then let it run on a 100mhz fsb, you should note that doing this on my chip got rid of the mulitplyer limit and let me run at a 3x and a 4x, you should set your chip to 3x to start with and if all works fine knock it up to 3.5, you will probabally either end up at 3x100, 3x112(or 115 depending on your board) or 3.5x100, I managed with a lot of work to get my 233 up to 3x133, I had to lap the chip the heatsink use AS and disable the L2 cache as this was onmly stable up to 350 after I had cooled it.
