Saw this in another post.

http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/tra-03.html

And read the description and noted this paragraph in particular.

Please take a moment before deciding to purchase and install this product to make sure that it will work with your AMD Athlon™ XP processor. Locate the label on the chip, as shown above, and be certain that the model number starts with “AXDA”. If it does - you're all set! If it does not - do not buy this product!
Complete instructions are included. Installation takes less than one minute.

I took a look at neweggs barton 2500+ and this is it's model #.

Model# AXDA2500DKV4D

So for $14.99 the locked bartons with AXDA in the model number can be unlocked?

Nevermind....http://www.speed-strip.com/over.htm

Please note, AMD is beginning to ship newer Athlon XPs locked from the factory and the Speed Strip fails to unlock them. There is an excellent article on this here that has a lot of useful information including how to identify if your processor is one that is affected. They also discuss possible work arounds. In the meantime, we are going to continue to look into this and will keep you posted.

It would suck to just come out with a product and have it become a paperweight a few months later. lol

Also note that you could just use a conductive pen, a very thin strand of copper thread, or some rear-window defogger repair paint to unlock your processor (If it is an unlockable, pre week 39, chip), and save yourself the price of the speed strip. The speed strip also looks like it would tilt your Heatsink/Waterblock, and mess up contact. I guess the product was a good idea and all, but totally unnessacery when you can do it yourself with a piece of free conductive copper thread.

I wonder how their sales have been; as it has been out for a while now...
