I'm a newbie to the overclocking community so please excuse me. What is stepping. I plan to upgrade to a p3 800e. Also is the p3 800e the right choice for oc.

Stepping is just Intel's fancy word for revision. Each revision gets a new stepping code. The PIII-800 isn't the worst choice for overclocking, but the 700 is a much better candidate.

thanks for the info. How far should I expect to take a quality 700e with quailty ram and pep 66 air cooling.

With a cC0 stepping, 700E should be able to get you minimum of 933mhz and upto less than 1100mhz(and with a mobo that will allow such high FSB mhz) with your cooling.

I think with a cB0 stepping, you may hit betw. 933mhz and upto 1000mhz+/- with your cooling setup
