View Full Version : No video during boot
Got a little problem. Put together a computer just for trying to overclock it. The Mobo is by amptron socket 1, purchased a 366C and a sloket. The mobo has soft bios so no jumpers. Purchased PNY 128meg pc133 SDRam. Computer booted great the first time. I went to the bios and set the bus to run at 100mhz . My intent was to load windows 98 on the new Maxtor 45G HD. So leaving the CPU to basically idle at its original speed. (Default on this board is 233@66mhz)
I wrote to CMOS and started the boot process, it didn't see the HD so I turned off the computer to make it boot from A drive. When I turned it back on no video!
Can't see anything, I can hear the hard drive wind up but nothing else. HELP! Usually this is a sure sign of something in conflict. All my devices are built in. Video, sound, modem. Any sugestions? I cleared cmos to try and go back to when it would boot but still nothing. DAMN! Help!!!
are you sure there are no jumpers on the motherboard for FSB boot up frequency and AGP devider? If the AGP devider is set wrong that may be you problem. Check your manual if there are jumpers for proper settings.

Reset the CMOS to default using the jumper (probably has a white cap on it). Load your OS at default speed, check for conflicts FIRST, then up the speed slowly. I am not sure that C366s will go that high with some serious cooling, and you didn't post the rest of the setup so it's hard to tell what else might be causing trouble too.
I'll second that motion, Newbie Doo.
I've done similar, many times. Push the FSB too high in the BIOS, and had it lock up tight, until I cleared the CMOS.

Ok you tried to clear the cmos..try it again, making sure you leave the jumper there for 30 seconds or more, and try again, if that don't do it, then remove your cmos battery, and wait for five minutes, and put the battery back, and maybe it'll bootup.
You could also try reseating the cpu/mem.
Also make sure you take static precautions, and unplug the power suply before removing the battery.
If all else fails try to put in a different cpu, and maybe the defaults will kick in.
