Take the $10 and buy a couple of Beers. The SE440BX-2 is not overclockable. No way, No how. $10 won't buy a new motherboard either.

Seriously, can't be done on Intel boards. They make sure of that.

theres a chance SoftFSB might work with it as most clock chips support more than the standard fsb's it's just intel doesn't give accesst to them with it's bios or jumpers

i tried softFSB but it locks up as soon as i click 'get fsbs'. I read some dudes report that said he o/c his p3 500 on se440bx-2, so it must work. Any ideas?

Search your local mom & pop computer stores, for used motherboards...like an old BX6...good old slot one board, and you might find one cheap enough you can afford...but stay away from PC-CHIPS boards. If you get a used board, make sure it comes with at least a ten day warantee.
The Forum here also has a "cyber deals" topic just for people buying and selling used equipment..who knows, maybe you have just the right thing to trade.

I have a Dell Dimensions XPS T550mhz which uses the SE440BX or SE440BX-2 and found that softfsb also locks up whenever retrieve fsb is clicked. I have managed to alter the fsb by using CPU Cool. Not sure if it is the same on yours but use board type Intel and Seatle BX-2 and use PLL manafacturer: cypress and PLL type: W149.
I found that my mobo only supports 100mhz 103mhz and 124mhz (also 133mhz but you will no way get that) This overclocks the fsb by 3% and 24% but when overclocking the fsb by 24% my hard drive locks up and I am unable to run at that fsb speed.
Hope this helps you, post if you get it working, and get CPU Cool Here (http://www.podien.de)

Or.. you can go the route i did. I have a Dell Dimension XPS R400, and it comes with a SE440BX board. I bought a iWill Slocket II and a cC0 Celeron II 633Mhz o/c to 950Mhz at the moment. So far it's runnin fine..

I was thinkin of just chucking the mobo and upgrading to something like a ABIT or similar that can actually be overclocked!
Do any of you know how easy it would be to swap the mobo in a dell system and which mobo would you pro's recomend for around $100 or would I need to spend more/less?
