My mate just built a amd setup and when he turns it on it beeps " the memory error way" So he read the manual and it says if he has pc2100 ram he must have all the ram slot filled (all 3 of them). Is this correct i find it SO hard to belieive.

He has a asus asrock mobo.

I dont want advice on how to fix it just is what the manual says correct, or has he interprated it wrong or something :s?!?! Ive never owned or used a AMD only intel so i havent a clue really

Thanks

Scott :)

Therein lies your problem. You're trying to squeeze a watermelon through a straw, more often than not, with an SiS. I'd get in touch with SiS but I can already tell you they run through a call center and aren't much help. Your best bet is to get an nForce-based board and be done with it.

He has two sticks of ram, if he gets a third and will therefore have all the slots with ram in, will this sort the problem? after ur post im just making sure that it will work. hehe :)

More directly, the mobo's manual is correct. They basically didn't make the board physically capable of handling the 2100 properly because the SiS chipset on the board has trouble with it unless there are more than two chips. When I worked at CompUSA our basic discovery was that the whole reason they put the third slot on certain MSI/SiS boards was for that very reason; after that our tech department went Via and nForce only.

It'll work, just let it run for a bit and make sure none of the capicitors leak.
