i just noticed this section, i thin ktis a great idea and hopefuly tis gonna save me a few dollars.

Anyway I've ogt a problem with this computer, all of the parts work, ive tryed them in a different computer.

The problem:

The computer will not start up, ive taken it completly apart a few times to make sure i didnt miss anything, but still it wont start, i dont understand how that can be if all the parts work, whatelse can it be ? its been sitting there for 6months not running :/

you've tried every separate part in other systems, including the psu (that sounds like the problem, i had the same thing)?

Yea it sounds like a PSU problem to me.

BTW: This doesn't sound like an emergency if it was sitting around for 6 months doing nothing.

I have seen a PSU do that as well.

A CMOS jumper in the wrong position will also give you this on some boards

While it infact doesnt sound like an emergency since its been sitting around for so long it does meet the specifications of the forum and would be an emergency if it had not been sitting around. The forum is for troubleshooting problems not necessarily instantanious things. The problem is no different than it was 6 months ago.

And sorry but all i can say for your problem is that it may be the PSU if you have not tested that. Or else its the mobo if you have not tested that.

Could be a number of things ranging in severity from a bad power on switch to a dead psu or mobo. I would try a different switch if you have one you could take out of another case. Test the psu by putting a paperclip between the green wire and a black wire then plug it in. If it powers up than its not the main problem. But I would try either the PSU, mobo, or Power on switch. Just my thoughts on the subject.
Good luck

We really aren't getting enough information here. Is power getting to the motherboard? Are fans and lights coming on? Was anything changed just prior to the problem occuring? What is your setup? Have you tried resetting the BIOS? Just some things to consider.. BIGAIR

Double check the connections on the MB for the start button because I had mine hooked up RIGHT and knowing nothing else to try I reversed them and it fired up. Maybe the factory got the poles reversed but I had the + and - where they should be and no go. Or maybe my button is fouled up, who knows . . . All I know is it worked for me. Check ALL connections to the MB.

Swap out a good PSU from a working 'puter and see if it fires off.

Instead of hooking up the case switch to turn it on and off use a flat head screwdriver to short the pwr on pins. This should turn it on.

Good thought Axis, could possible be a bad power on button. They're dirt cheap at any computer repair store.

When I had that no power to the MB problem I knew the button wires were connected right because I was replacing a MB and the previous MB worked fine and still baffeled why I had to reverse wires on the new ASUS but main thing is it worked.

There is no polarity for a switch, it's either open or closed. It sounds like yours was just not making contact the first time, and when you pulled it off and reconnected it, you pushed it in all the way the second time.

As for the topic at-hand, when nothing happens when I push the power button I have a little list I go down of things to check.

1: Check to make sure that the switch is plugged into the correct spot (power where reset should be) and that it's pushed in all the way.
2: Connect a different switch in it's place.
3: Check to see if the ATX plug from the PSU is plugged in all the way.
4: Check the switch on the PSU (some have them next to the AC plug, some don't)
5: If water-cooling, plug a fan into the mobo's cpu fan header (in case cpu-fan sense is what's stopping it)
6: Reseat everything that's plugged into the mobo (all wires, cards, drives, etc...)
7: Only attempt booting up with the bare essentials (CPU, RAM, GPU, HDD, and Floppy)
8: Swap out all parts one at a time in another system to see if you can duplicate the problem in the second system. (if the problem is the mobo itself, you will know after swapping everything from the other system over, including the PSU)

Oh just thought of something not metioned here that has happend to me.

First make sure the PSU is plugged in , at mobo and wall outlet, and turned on. Then wiggle the power cord wires in side the computer, move them around and such. I had serveral power supplys were they would not turn on unless they were twisted, pushed, or held in a certain way. Maybe they had a break in the wires or bad connections at the atx plug or in the psu any way it was annoying....

Sorry, I can not solve your problem and I have no clue. The specifications of this forum and its rules have been updated, so now it is for emergencies hence the name "EMERGENCY-911!"

However, I do agree with you, at the time it did meet the givin specifications of this forum.

if there is no power at all, you could try connecting the green pin and a black pin inside the atx connector while it is plugged into the mobo. i built a system as a cruncher last night and had to do this.

Well since he said he swapped all parts into other working rigs lets assume everything works except possible the switch or the mobo.

Have tried to power up the mobo outside the case? The motherboard could be grounding out on one of the standoffs or some other area. Just a thought.

I included swapping out the PSU in my list because I've ran into people who said that they swapped out "everything" but the one thing that slipped their mind was the PSU.
