I am currently running a Celeron II 566 @ 884 MHz with 256 megs of PC 100 ram, on a Abit BE6II Ver2

As I use my machine to work on data for the SETI@Home website, I would like to get a faster processor.

In terms of number crunching and best bang for the buck, what would be the best PIII I could use? I will be keeping the PC100 Ram

Thanks for the help

Keeping the PC100 ram will neuter any decent PIII. You want a mid range multiplier chip that you can run at high FSB for maximum performance. The 700e's overclocked to 133 or higher is the best bet, and most PC100 ram isn't happy at 133 and certainly not above. With ram prices as low as they are going to get for the moment, you will be shooting yourself in the foot to wait and hang on to the PC100.

Agreed. NOW is the time to buy ram. The prices have bottomed out, and will start going up again soon, and I've heard of a couple of places already increasing prices.

Get PC133, or better if your budget allows. Then get that P/// 700E as Tim mentioned. Best bet for the P/// as far as o/cing goes.

Should I get the 700E in a slot1 or FCPGA form? Thanks
